Telstar 18 is the official ball of FIFA World Cup 2018, which is to be played in Russia from June 14 to July 15, where 32 teams will participate to fight for the ultimate gold.
The ball is designed by Adidas, which is FIFA’s partner and has been the official ball supplier of the multi-nation tournament since 1970.
The ball is manufactured by Forward Sports, which is based in Pakistan’s city Sialkot. The city is well-known all around the world for producing quality sports goods.
Brazuca, the official match for the FIFA World Cup 2014, was also made in Pakistan.
Telstar 18 is a tribute to the official match ball of World cup 1970, Telstar. It was named after Telstar Communication Satelite because of its resemblance with it.
The first Telstar had 32 panels, whereas, this edition of the ball has 18 panels which are glued masterfully, rather than being stitched.
The name of the official ball for the upcoming World Cup was announced on 09 November 2017, at the official presentation by Lionel Messi.
