KARACHI: Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed revealed that Azhar Ali will be opening the batting in the coming two-match Test series against England, whereas, young Fakhar Zaman, Sami Aslam and Shan Masood will be fighting the remaining two opening slots in the squad.
Sarfraz shared that Pakistan will go England with three opening combinations, which means at least three opening batsmen will feature the squad.
“We will try to send Azhar as the opener. He is somebody who has opened in England before and is an experienced player who has been the backbone of the Test side with his performances for the last four-five years. We will most likely experiment with Azhar as an opener,” Express Tribune quoted Sarfraz Ahmed.
Moreover, the skipper revealed that other two slots will be filled by either of Sami, Shan or Fakhar Zaman.
“We will be looking to take at least three possible opening combinations with us so which means we will have three openers,” he told. “There is Shan, Sami and Fakhar have just been inducted into the squad. We will be consulting to see who we take with us,” he added.
Pakistan will play a four-day warm-up match against Kent followed by a one-off Test against Ireland starting from May 11.
Pakistan will face England in the first of the two matches from May 25th at Lord’s. Whereas, the second game of the series will be played at Headingley, Leads.
