Pakistan’s Champions Trophy final hero, Fakhar Zaman has been signed by English county Somerset as a replacement to New Zealand’s allrounder Corey Anderson who has to undergo surgery for a stress fracture.
Fakhar Zaman caught the attention of cricket world during Pakistan’s campaign in Champions Trophy where he scored two consecutive fifties followed by a marvelous century in the final against the arch-rivals India.
Corey Anderson suffered a double stress fracture during their Test against England two years ago at Lord’s that kept him out of action for eight months. His performance has definitely suffered due to the injury as he has taken two wickets only once since his return.
The 27-year old is eligible to play County Championship while at Taunton.
Director of cricket at Somerset Matt Maynard praised the aggressive Kiwi allrounder
“During his time here Corey has soldiered on bravely and managed his ongoing stress fracture well but now it needs immediate treatment,” he said.
Maynard is excited to have the flamboyant left-handed opener in the ranks for the NatWest T20 Blast.
“It’s great to have Fakhar joining us and in addition, we will have Dean Elgar back for the final three T20 Blast group stage game,” he stated.
“However, Dean has to return to South Africa for a camp prior to the South Africa v Bangladesh series. As a result, he will play no further County Championship cricket for us,” he concluded.
Somerset will have the services of Fakhar Zaman till the end of the season.
