The young seventeen-year-old bowler Fatima Sana has been included to the Pakistan women cricket team for their upcoming ICC Women’s Championship fixture against South Africa.
Fatima has replaced pacer Diana Baig who left the field due to a thumb injury and had surgery at a local hospital in Karachi. The doctors have advised Diana eight to ten weeks rest which means the right arm pacer will not be able to travel to South Africa.
Urooj Mumtaz, the chief selector of the women’s team, said that Diana’s injury is a huge blow to the team ahead of an important series. “Fatima Sana is a good addition to the team’s squad and I hope she will make the most of this opportunity,” she added.
Recently Fatima bowled well in recently concluded 2nd Inter-Departmental T20 Women’s Cricket Championship while representing ZTBL. She took taking seven wickets in as many games.
The green shirts will leave for South Africa on April 29. The women in green will play three ODIs (part of the ICC Women’s Championship) and five T20Is and two warm-up games in their 25-day tour.
