Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) boss, Shahryar Khan has expressed disappointment over the omission of left-handed batsman, Fawad Alam from the list of centrally contracted players.
Shahryar Khan talked to Daily Express and said that if he was a member of selection committee, Alam would have been given a central contract.
“If it was up to me, Fawad would still be among our centrally contracted players,” he said. “I think it was unfair to exclude him. And now, with him getting older, it would be tougher for him to make a comeback to the national side.”
Shahryar Khan explained that Fawad Alam is not left out from the national side due to any fault of his, but, the current lot of players is so talented that he often gets ignored.
“Even though a player of Fawad’s calibre is more suitable in Tests instead of ODIs and T20Is, but, fortunately for us, there are many good players available in the format,” he said.
He quoted Babar Azam, Sharjeel Khan and Fakhar Zaman as players, who put up brilliant performances recently. Shahryar Khan still believes that Fawad Alam will keep performing in domestic circuit and will make his case stronger for selection.
