Madrid: Atletico Madrid’s star player Fernando Torres is focused on winning the final of the UEFA Champions League despite the fact that he has been left out of the provisional Spanish squad which will feature in the UEFA Euro 2016.
Torres has been on a good run of form this season and has netted 11 goals for his side in La Liga. The performance was not enough to impress the Spanish coach Del Bosque who left a number of big names from the squad including Torres.
“I’m not worried about the Euro, I’ve got the biggest game of my life to play,” he said according to Marca.
“We are facing an opportunity that life does not give you many times.
“The growth of this club, to reach two finals in three years, was unimaginable, but we are facing a new chapter in our history and we must write it with a happy ending.”
Atletico face city rivals Madrid in the final of the UEFA Champions League on the 28th of May which will be a repeat of the final the two sides played two years back which eventually turned out to be a heart breaker for the Atletico Madrid side due to a 93rd minute equalizer from Ramos and a consequent win for Real Madrid.
“The opponent in a final is not important, what matters is the result and is the only thing that is going to stay in people’s heads,” he continued.
“We see an opportunity to do something that has never been done.
“There is obviously a rivalry with Real Madrid but that changes in Europe, the games from before count for nothing.”
