The Federation for International Hockey (FIH) has suspended Pakistan from participating in the ongoing Pro Hockey League (PHL).
FIH released a document in which they revealed that Pakistan will no longer be able to take part in PHL. According to them, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) informed that they will not take part in the first phase of the PHL due to lack of funds.
FIH further stated that Pakistan’s exclusion will not harm the schedule of the league and the world’s hockey governing body is keen to make this event successful. FIH also thanked the other nations who made sure Pakistan’s participation in the event.
On the other hand, PHF claimed that the government of Pakistan didn’t release funds for them which is the reason why they excused the FIH from participating in the event.
Earlier, the team’s coaching staff said that they don’t have money to accommodate players during the training camps. The Pro Hockey League was the track for Pakistan to qualify for Olympics 2020.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Pro Hockey League is a new concept introduced by the FIH which will involve the world’s leading hockey nations. The men and women teams will play home and away matches with each other in the six-month period.
