Argentinian star and one of the best players in the world Lionel Messi surprisingly announced retirement from international football after his side suffered yet another defeat in the final of a major event. Argentina lost on penalty shoot-out against Chile today which saw Messi missing a penalty as well.
Messi scored 55 goals in 1134 matches including 36 assists for his side in a career which lasted over ten years.

Free-kick vs United States, 2016
Messi scored from a free-kick which can only be described as majestic because he took it from quite a distance from goal (25-27 yards). The free-kick goal came against United States in the semi-final of this year’s Copa America.
First hat-trick vs Switzerland, 2012
Messi has scored loads of hat-tricks for FC Barcelona but his very first hat-trick came against Switzerland in 2012 and it took him seven years to achieve this feat for his national side. The goals came in the 19th, 87th and 93rd minute of a friendly match.
2014 World Cup
Messi led his side to the final of the FIFA World Cup in 2014 where he was instrumental in many victories that came in their journey towards the final but unfortunately he Argentinian side were defeated in the final by Germany after a hard fought contest. Messi scored in each of Argentina’s group matches—against Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iran and Nigeria.
2007 Copa America
Who could forget that amazing lob goal from Messi against Mexico in the Copa America of 2007 and other brillinat performances from the little superstar. He scored twice and assisted once in the tournament to help his side reach another final but again they suffered defeat at the hands of Brzil, this time, in the final.
2008 Beijing Olympics
Messi’s biggest international achievement is the gold medal in the Beijing Olympics where he played as a a part of the under-23 side which clinched gold for a the second time in their Olympics history. Messi scored twice in this tournament.
