Pakistan’s humiliating 5-0 defeat in home ODI series against Australia has given a wake-up call to the team management as all the players went through a fitness test in Dubai.
According to the sources, five out of sixteen players failed to clear the fitness test. The players include middle-order batsman Umar Akmal, young pacer Mohammad Husnain, leg-spinner Yasir Shah, opening batsman Abid Ali and all-rounder Imad Wasim.
Abid Ali, who hit headlines after smashing a ton on debut, failed to clear his first fitness test for the national team. He was under consideration for the upcoming World Cup after an inspiring knock but now his inclusion in team’s squad for the mega event would be based on his fitness.
It is pertinent to mention here that the team management will conduct the final fitness test on April 14 before finalising the World Cup squad. All the players have to meet the set benchmark otherwise their ticket to the UK would be in danger.
