Pakistan women’s team opener Javeria Khan revealed her team’s planning for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020. She said that their main focus is to firstly qualify for the top-four in the events.
While talking to the media at National Stadium Karachi (NSK) on Saturday, Javeria said that the T20 World Cup is a mega event and she wants to contribute to her team’s aim to qualify in top-four in the event.
“We as a team firstly aim to make it into top-four in the event. It’s a big event for us and the world’s top teams are taking part in it. We aim to play competitive cricket there and get off the mark strongly,” Javeria said.
T20I format is different
Javeria thinks that T20I format is different where no team is bigger, things can change immediately. “You can’t predict the winner in T20I cricket. Things change in a shorter period of time. The team plays stronger on the day, wins,” Javeria marked.
The right-handed batswoman highly rated Pakistan’s chances to qualify for in the final four. “See, our squad is competitive. We have a blend of youngsters and experienced players who can play strongly to give tough time. We are placed in Group B of the event along with England, South Africa, West Indies, and Thailand. We had a good record against the first three teams and had defeated them,” she said.
Practice for the event
Javeria believes that the time they have for preparations ahead of the event is enough to adjust in Australian conditions.
“Our team management has planned practice session keeping in mind the Australian conditions. We have played matches on cement pitches to control bounce and speed, we are training under lights as we have to play a couple of matches in the night in the mega event. So, overall we are trying to apply every possible tactic to get prepared for the event strongly,” she said.
Javeria aims to utilize her experience and make the most of every single opportunity. “My focus is to contribute for my team whenever they needed. Being an experienced batter in the team, I will try to lead from the front,” she said.
Talking about her individual aims for the event, she wants to become a leading run-scorer in the tournament. “I want to score as many runs as I can to get my name into highest run-scorer in the event,k” she concluded.
