Former Captain Wasim Akram advises seasoned batsman Younus Khan to focus on test cricket and forget playing ODIs.
Recently, Pakistan announced its T20 and ODI squads for the Zimbabwe tour and Younus Khan’s name was missing. Although there were rumors in the media regarding his inclusion prior to the announcement. Wasim Akram says “It would be better for Younus to forget about ODIs and concentrate on test cricket only.”
“There is a clear communication gap between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and national selectors and Younis which is why we see the senior batsman keep on repeating he wants to play 50-overs cricket,” said Akram.
Wasim Akram said it would be advisable if the Board and Selectors discuss with Younus Khan regarding his future and line of action for playing test cricket and ODIs.
There were chances of Younus being selected for the ODIs as Azhar Ali, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Asad Shafiq are busy performing Hajj, but the selectors opted for younger players, which has again become an issue for discussion.
Prior to Zimbabwe team announcement, Younis stated, If I am not included in this format it would be extremely discouraging for me whereas Wasim Akram advised him to focus on test matches as this format has brought him a lot of success.
Rashid Latif another former Captain said that Younis’s desire of playing ODI has unnecessarily become controversial, the selectors in fact are not helping him out by giving vague statements like” the doors are open for him to play one day cricket.” Such statements are confusing for him and must be avoided.
