Gavaskar and Ganguly express their views about India’s captaincy

The batting great, Sunil Gavaskar believes that Virat Kohli should not be given the captaincy of all three formats of the game immediately; instead, he should be allowed to grow while leading the test side.

“Virat should not be rushed into captaincy in all formats. Let him grow into this role… 2019 World Cup is far away,” Gavaskar told NDTV.

On the other hand, one of India’s most successful skippers, Sourav Ganguly has a different opinion on the issue. Ganguly doesn’t feel that Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be captaining India in the 2019 World Cup.

Ganguly said that if the selectors are sure that MS Dhoni will be able to lead Indian team in England in the World Cup 2019 then they should persist with him, otherwise, he should be replaced with a new captain.

“The selectors need to find an answer to whether they see Dhoni leading India in 2019. If the answer is no, then find a new captain,” Ganguly told the India Today television network on Tuesday.

Indian batting star, Virat Kohli has been in exceptional form since India’s tour to Australia. At the moment, he is the leading run scorer in ongoing season of IPL with 561 runs in nine innings at an average of 80.14. He has scored two centuries and four half-centuries in his nine outings in the Royal Challengers Bangalore outfit.

Unfortunately, the Kohli led side, RCB, is unable to convert his captain’s form into victories due to fragile bowling attack.

“Bowlers have let Bangalore down in IPL. Kohli is as good as his team,” said Gavaskar.
