SHARJAH: Lahore Qalandars came close to beat Quetta Gladiators when the first time they met in PSL 2017. Qalandars fell 8 runs short while chasing a low total of 137 runs. Brendon McCullum will be hoping to take his side over the line this time.
Lahore Qalandars have recovered well in the campaign after an early setback and they have defeated Islamabad United and Karachi Kings. They looked even threatening while defending a low total of 60 runs against Peshawar Zalmis and nearly pulled off an impossible win.
Whereas, Quetta Gladiators have also been defying the odds in this tournament. They have been consistent since the season one, but, they have not won too convincingly during this edition of the league.
The Sarfraz Ahmed’s led-side is at the second position on the points table just behind Peshawar Zalmi as the game between the two ended in no result due to rain.
Quetta Gladiators, the runners up, of the first season will be hoping to see some flow of runs from Ahmed Shehzad and moreover from Kevin Pietersen who have scored just 3 runs under his belt so far in the tournament. In the last two games he has got out on golden ducks.
Similarly, Brendon McCullum has led Lahore Qalandars brilliantly in the tournament, but he has failed to create an impact with the bat. He scored 45 runs in the first two games and got out on ducks in the next two. The positive for Qalandars have been their silver category player, Fakhar Zaman who has been tremendous with the bat and was Man of the Match against Karachi Kings as well.
In the likes of Brendon McCullum, Jason Roy, Fakhar Zaman, Umar Akmal , Sunil Narine and Yasir Shah, Qalandars look a solid team. Whereas, Sarfraz Ahmed’s urge to fight, experience of Kevin Pietersen, aggression of Ahmed Shehzad and firepower of Riley Russow can surely knockdown any opposition.
