Multan: Haris Rauf did the magic for Northern by picking up three wickets in a row to restrict Southern Punjab (SP) to 176-9 and win their second consecutive contest by 27 runs in National T20 Cup.
Shadab Khan got the breakthrough for Northern as he removed well-set Sohaib Maqsood and Zeeshan Ashraf in back-to-back succession. Maqsood and Zeeshan were parternig strongly for Southern Punjab who were set to chase 204 runs in 20 overs.
The wicket-keeper batsman was striving hard to get his team to first victory in the tournament. He scored unbeaten 73 runs off 37 balls with the help of eight boundaries and 4 sixes. Maqsood was building up his inning with already hitting three boundaries in hi 18 runs knock.
Umar Siddiq also played well for SP as he scored 33 off 24 balls with the help of six boundaries.
Apart from Shadab and Haris, Musa Khan and Mohammad Nawaz bagged a wicket each for table-topers Northern.
Earlier, Northern scored 203-5 with Ali Imran scoring highest 50 runs. Haider Ali and Shadab Khan scored 28 runs each to further boast their team’s score.
Mohammad Nawaz in the end played a cameo to help Northern cross 200-run mark. The left-handed batter struck two fours and as many sixes to score quick 31 runs off 15 balls.
For SP, Zahid Mehmood took three wickets while Mohammad Irfan managed to take two.
