Haris Rauf’s death overs bowling leads Melbourne Stars to BBL final


Haris Rauf bowled death overs brilliantly as Melbourne Stars beat Sydney Thunders by 28 runs in the qualifier 2 of the Big Bash League (BBL).

44 runs needed in the last three overs, Thunders’ two new batters Daniel Sams and Jay Lenton faced in-form Rauf who bowled consistently and conceded just three runs in 18th over to put Stars in a strong position. In the last over, the right-arm pacer from Pakistan took a wicket and gave just two runs to book his team’s place in BBL 2020 final.

Earlier, Marcus Stoinis and Nick Larkin both scored 83 runs each to help Stars post 166-8 in 20 overs. They both scored 117 runs together for the second wicket.

For Thunders, Chris Morris was the only wicket-taker as the right-arm medium pacer took two wickets.

In reply, Thunders early wickets of Alex Hales and Callum Ferguson for the sum of 33. Usman Khuwaja resisted a bit and scored 23 off 15.

Alex Ross (58) and Arjun Nair (30) tried hard to push their team out of the trouble but they couldn’t manage to go long. They both added 58 runs to the team’s total.

Apart from Rauf, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Adam Zampa bagged two wickets each.

Now, Melbourne Stars will play against Sydney Sixers in the final of the BBL 2020 on February 8 in Sydney.
