Middle-order left-handed batsman, Haris Sohail has been called in the squad for ICC Champions Trophy to replace unfit Umar Akmal, PCB announced via press release.
Inzamam Ul Haq, Pakistan’s chief selector, called Umar Amin, Asif Zakir and Haris Sohail for a fitness test. The NCA trainer took the test and submitted report, after reviewing it, selectors opted to send Haris Sohail to England for the multi-nation cricketing event.
Haris Sohail was seen as bright batting prospect for Pakistan before getting injured after World Cup 2015.
He underwent knee surgery and spent time in rehabilitation before coming back to competitive cricket during the second season of Pakistan Super League.
He made his debut against West Indies in 2013 and has scored 774 runs in 22 One Day Internationals at an average of 43. His best score in 50-*over format is 89 runs.
Earlier, Umar Akmal failed fitness test in England just before the commencement of Champions Trophy, the coach requested for a replacement of the aggressive right-handed batsman.
Champions Trophy will be played from June 1 to June 18 in England. Pakistan will kick off their campaign against India on June 4.
