Sydney: Pakistan’s head coach Waqar Younus blames media for highlighting differences on selection issues. He said that some people immediately react and are unable to bear the pressure when the team loses. Had Haroon Rashid or some other selector been a part of the tour selection committee whatever they said would have been understandable.
According to details after being criticized on Pakistan’s continuous defeat against England in limited overs, Head coach Waqar Younus and Chief selector Haroon Rashid started pointing fingers at each other but after meeting the PCB Chairman Shehryar Khan they gave a joint statement to the media in Lahore that “We are one” and there is no ambiguity in our understanding. Very recently in an interview to a British website Waqar Younus disclosed certain weaknesses concerning this issue.
He said that some people in the media keep searching negative issues. There are few people who can face criticism on their defeat while others get disturbed. I think the difference issue between the selectors and management got highlighted due to unnecessary pressure exerted by the media on some individuals who abruptly reacted. I think it would have been appropriate had Haroon Rashid or some other selector been a part of the tour selection committee. I have no issue working together as long as our thoughts are aligned and we stop blaming each other.
