HEC defeats Sindh by 3-1 in National Tray Hockey Championships


Lahore: Higher Education Commission (HEC) defeated Sindh by 3-1 in their match in 5th National Tray Hockey Championships here at National Hockey Stadium on Tuesday.

Pumped up HEC took lead over Sindh in the first quarter with Ali Murtaza scoring back-to-back goals. With counter-attack in initially, Ali finally broke the defence of opponents to net the ball. The goal increased the confidence of HEC who then pushed Sindh aside by their attacking approach.

In the 18th minute, Ali once again took charge and scored his second goal of the match. The score was 2-0 in favour of HEC at half-time.

Under pressure, Sindh looked formidable when they came after the break but solid defense from HEC put hurdles in their way to score the gaol. In 47th minute, Hammad Ayaz finally brought a breakthrough for Sindh by scoring a goal.

However, in the 53rd minute a Mohammad Usman of HEC made the most of a Penalty-Corner and struck the third goal to seal a convincing win for HEC.

Earlier, in first match of the day, Balochistan defeated Azad Jammu and Kashmir by 5-2. Younis and Asfand Senior netted two goals each while Abdul Ali smashed one for the winning side. For Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Bilal Marjan was the only scorer.
