The head coach of the Pakistan hockey team and Olympian Tahir Zaman is extremely happy to see the organization of a quality tournament like the Hockey-5 Championship. He believes that the tournament will bring revolution in Pakistan hockey and will revive the game in Pakistan once again.
The inaugural Hockey-5 Championship will be held in Lahore and is scheduled to begin on the 18th of June and will conclude on the 25th. The matches will be played under Floodlights. Hockey-5, a faster version of hockey, is similar to the T20 format in cricket.
“After holding the first Hockey-5 Championship, the event will be moved to schools in order to engage maximum youth in healthy activities,” he said according to Associated Press of Pakistan.
“The same boys will go on a European tour and later participate in the Junior Hockey World Cup,” he said.
“There periods of 12 minutes will be played in the championship,” he said.
All the preparation for the championship have been finalised and Tahir Zaman was hopeful that large crowds turn up to watch these matches.
“This championship is believed to attract as many as crowds to the stadium,” he said.
The winner of the inaugural tournament will get Rs 700,000 meanwhile runners up will earn Rs 500,000, third position holder, Rs 400,000, fourth position holder Rs 300,000, fifth position holder, Rs 200,000 and the last and the sixth position holder will get Rs 100,000.
