Hockey Vision-2020: Ministry of Finance to grant Rs500 million

Islamabad: The Ministry of Finance is set to issue Rupees 500 million for Hockey Vision-2020.

According to details vision-2020 includes establishing junior academies as per International standards, spending funds on educating and grooming young players, up-grading mini-hockey grounds and also giving grants to hockey associations at the district and provincial level will be done.

Reliable sources from the ministry of Inter-Provincial co ordination disclosed that PHF had sent a proposal ‘PHF Vision-2020’ to the Prime minister’s house putting forward suggestions for bringing improvement in hockey at the domestic and International level events. The proposal suggests setting up Junior-hockey academies in all the four provinces of Pakistan including Islamabad, training of coaches, educating and training of young players, umpires, releasing funds to hockey associations at the district and provincial level and upgrading of existing mini-hockey grounds.

In the first phase PHF will be granted Rs200m and in the second phase Rs300m. The ministry of finance has already been instructed to issue Rs 500 million for the development of hockey. Recently in an interview, the PHF president Brig (retd) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar said “To make the Vision-2020 a success a comprehensive plan will be chalked out after the release of funds.” He said “there is abundant talent available in the country and to groom this talent we will utilize all our efforts to contact former Olympians through our hockey officials.”
