Pakistan captain U19 and wicket-keeper batsman Rohail Nazir believes that his side, with a strong combination, will perform well and try to replicate 2006 heroics when Sarfaraz Ahmed led side lifted the Under-19 World Cup in India.
“As a captain, I am hopeful that we will play well and lift the World Cup and make our nation proud,” He said.
While talking to media at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore, the skipper said that South Africa conditions will not be difficult as we have played there last year and won the series.
We are used to South African conditions and also have an idea of how to play there. Last year’s series was very beneficial for us to prepare for the mega event. Most of the players have played there and we have guided the ones who didn’t know about the conditions.
“The young man has impressed me a lot. He has added depth to our team who open the innings, fields well and also bowls few over in the middle,” Rohail on 14-year all-rounder Mohammad Shehzad.
He pointed out that he and Haider Ali was also part of the ACC Emerging Asia Cup in Bangladesh and since then, Head Coach Ijaz Ahmed has taught them what to do if the team wins or loses.
“Our coach Ijaz Ahmed has taught us that if a match is won or lost, it’s a part of the history. If you win, try to move on and if you lose, identify your mistakes and work on it,” He said. “We are not focusing on any particular side. whoever team we play, the aim is to win,” He added.
Rohail knows the importance of this level and this platform is great to transform yourself at the highest level and play for Pakistan.
“Since childhood, we have witnessed that the players who succeeded at the Under-19 level have gone on to play for Pakistan senior side.” He added.
“As a captain and wicket-keeper of the side, you know what a batsman or a bowler is trying to do and on this former skipper of senior team Sarfaraz Ahmed has given me crucial tips,” He concluded.
It must be noted that the camp was underway at the NCA in Lahore for the World Cup. The team will fly tomorrow with their first match to be played on January 19th against Scotland.
