The Spanish king of clay Rafael Nadal defeated Vasek Pospisil in straight sets 7-6 and 6-4 to qualify for the quarter finals of the China Open in Beijing. After a tough previous round where he broken by the 230th seeded and his former ball boy 4 times during the match.
After the match while talking to media (atpworldtour.com) Rafa was happy to see his performance improve considerably as compared to previous match. He said “I’m happy for the victory,”
He was delighted to see that he made not made the same mistakes like his previous match and put up a good show. He added “It’s a victory against a good opponent like Vasek, which is good news for me. Today, I did few things much better than yesterday. That’s a good thing for me; it’s very important for my game.”
Nadal has not won a single hard court tournament since Doha 2014 and so is concentrated on winning this one in, here in China as he said “Beijing is a very important tournament, a very important event, and I am going to fight for every ball to try to have the best result possible,”.
His quarter final opponent Jack Sock who is an American can pose a threat for the Spaniard and Rafa was fully aware of that. His comments about Sock were “He’s a very good young player with a fantastic serve and a very strong forehand,” and “He is going to be a big opponent for the quarter-finals. I will need to play better than today.”
