Pakistan’s newly appointed head coach, Mickey Arthur has a tough task ahead in shape of of England tour, for the purpose, he has taken Steve Rixon to improve Pakistan’s fielding and former Pakistan’s leggie, Mushtaq Ahmed onboard.
Mushtaq, who has worked with England in the past as well and was associated with Pakistan recently, will act as the bowling coach and a translator between the South African Arthur and players.
Mickey Arthur told Telegraph an interesting exchange of words between him and Msuhtaq Ahmed. Mushtaq said to Arthur, “Mr Mickey, you’re the dad on this tour, I’ll be the mum,” on which Arthur replied, “No, Mush, I want you to be tough on our bowlers,” Mushtaq wittily respond to Arthur, “Ok, Mr Mickey, I’ll be the step-mum.”
Mickey Arthur seems extremely inspired by the skills of Yasir Shah. The merging leggie has earlier been coined as one of the key weapons for Pakistan on the all important England tour.
Arthur said about Shah, “Having coached in South Africa, you don’t really work with wrist-spinners – you work with serviceable finger-spinners,” he added, “I was absolutely absorbed watching him [Shah] bowl, the control he had and the amount of deliveries he had, it was amazing.”
On the other hand, Mickey Arthur has praised the commitment of Misbah Ul Haq and Younis Khan. He said that it is unbelievable to see the old duo training so hard and that too while fasting.
When Arthur told Misbah about the tough training that they will be undergoing in Rose Bowl, Misbah replied, ” Don’t worry about us, we’ll do everything you need, but we are going to continue our fast.”
Arthur believes it is amazing strength, “I thought that was extremely admirable,” Arthur said. “It’s amazing, the strength of mind to get through that.”
It is a very crucial tour for Pakistan. As a result, the Pakistan Cricket Board has spent around £70,000 for the preparation for this tour and it depicts the importance of this assignment.
