Lollywood actress Mehwish Hayat wishes to open a hockey academy to promote the national game in the country.
“I wish to open a hockey academy in Pakistan so that the national game and players can have a chance to showcase to flourish. I am also looking forward to sponsoring a hockey team and I am working on that,” Hayat said while touring U16 hockey camp for girls in Sukkur.
Hayat was off the view that people need to encourage the national game and it should be televised to attract teh viewership. “See cricket is popular because we promote it similarly we need to advertise hockey as well. It is disheartening to see the current status of hockey in Pakistan,” she said.
Pakistan’s superstar Hayat earlier visited Abdul Sattar Hockey Stadium in Karachi during National Hockey Championship. She visited the tournament in a bid to support the national game.
A video on Twitter, shows two hockey players filling water cooler, forced Hayat to take a step forward for hockey. “I saw a video on social media in which two players were finding out water to drink. They were up to fill a water cooler during the match. I didn’t know about such championship at the national level,” Mehwish said while talking to the media on her tour to the hockey stadium which is in its worst condition.
The superstar actress/model appealed to the government to do something for the national game. “We are four times world champion and three times we won the Olympics’ gold medal. Why we recognize only cricket and not other sports in the country?” Mehwish had raised questions.
