KARACHI: The ICC World Test Championship’s final between India and New Zealand has been shifted to Southampton from The Lords, claimed Saurav Ganguly – Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI)’s President.
According to the reports, Ganguly said Southampton is the suitable venue in COVID-19 times due to the nearest accommodation facilities for players.
“Yeah, the Test Championship final will be played in Southampton. It was decided a long time ago. Due to COVID and they [in Southampton] have the hotel absolutely close. When England resumed play after COVID, they had a lot of matches in Southampton due to the same reason,” he said.
It must be noted here that India beat England 3-1 in the four-matches Test series to qualify for the ICC Test Championship final. The finale was originally scheduled to be played between June 18 and 22 at The Lords as no confirmation regarding change of venue has been made by the ICC.
