BCCI President, Anurag Thakur announced on Tuesday that India will take on the World T20 champions, West Indies in two T20 internationals in Florida later this month.
The two matches between India and the West Indies will take place on August 27 and 28 at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill.
The officials of BCCI and the WICB sat together in Florida last week to discuss the proposed matches at the end of the ongoing test series between the two countries in West Indies.
At the beginning, the only hurdle in the way was getting US visas, however, it has been solved now as the BCCI has submitted the documents for the intended T20 squad to US Embassy in Jamaica.
The BCCI has issued a press release in which Thakur has stated, “As part of our continuous efforts to reach out to new markets and audiences, I am very happy to announce that Team India will play two T20Is against the current world champions West Indies in the United States,” Thakur said. “This will be a great opportunity for the cricket fans in America to watch the two champion sides in action. This will be developed into an annual cricketing event in the United States.”
The Central Broward Regional Park is the only ICC-certified ODI standard stadium in the USA that has hosted four T20 internationals. New Zealand played two T20Is against Sri Lanka in 2010 and took on West Indies in two T20Is two years later in 2012.
Other than that, the stadium has recently hosted six matches of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League from July 28 to 31.
