NOTTINGHAM: Indian pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami shared seven wickets as India bowled out hosts England for 183 in the first innings of the opening Test.
England’s decision to bat first on this pitch backfired them as they lost the opener, Rory Burns, to Bumrah in the very first over of the innings. Dom Sibley and Zak Crawley took charge from there and scored 42 runs but it wasn’t too late for India to take their second wicket with Shami’s strike. Sibley departed after scoring 18.
Skipper Joe Root resisted for his team and scored 64 runs off 108 balls with the help of 11 boundaries. Jonny Bairstow scored 29 whereas Sam Curran remained not out for 27 laced with four boundaries and a six.
Bumrah bagged four wickets whereas Shami took three. Shardul Thakur took two wickets while Mohammed Siraj bagged a scalp.
