Karachi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has clarified the buzz that they are not going to play the Asia Cup in Pakistan at any cost.
According to an Indian News Agency, BCCI official has addressed the issue and said that the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan if they host Asia Cup, a 20-over format tournament. The tournament will play an important role in the preparations ahead of T20 World Cup.
“It is crystal clear that India will not travel to Pakistan to play the Asia Cup. We need a neutral venue for the event,” he stated.
He further added that they have already put their matter in front of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and it is something else to discuss if they want the event minus India. “It is a different ball game if ACC wants Asia Cup minus India,” he said.
The official also quoted Asia Cup 2018 which India hosted in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He said BCCI hosted the last event at a neutral venue due to the same reasons. “A neutral venue is always an option. BCCI did it in 2018,” he highlighted.
It must be noted here that India and Pakistan haven’t played any bilateral series since 2012-2013. Lastly, Pakistan toured India to play ODIs and T20Is. Both the arch-rivals continues playing at multi-nation tournaments.
