India’s living cricketing legends, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar and Navjot Sindh Sidhu can be potential attendees of Imran Khan’s oath-taking ceremony as the next Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Kapil Dev, who was once Imran Khan’s fierce rival for being the captain of arch-rivals Indian team and a fast bowling all-rounder, congratulated the head of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on winning the elections.
He told in an interview that Khan still has the same as he had during his playing days. He also praised his leadership qualities and hoped that he will take Pakistan towards prosperity.
Sidhu, who himself a minister now in India, had all praise for the World Cup winning captain of Pakistan as he accepted the invitation for oath-taking ceremony.
“It is (a) great honour, I accept the invitation. Men of genius are admired, men of power are feared, but men of character are trusted. Khan Sahab is a man of character. He can be trusted. Sportsmen build bridges, break barriers, unite people,” Sidhu stated.
“He brings people together, the same way he’s brought the Pakistani society together. He’s also got that passion, look at the wonders an extraordinary captain like him did to an ordinary Pakistan team back in 1992,” he further stated.
The PTI spokesman, Fawad Chaudhary told ESPNCricinfo that they have consulted the Foreign Office to seek consultation regarding inviting foreign delegates in the ceremony.
With Imran Khan becoming Prime Minister of Pakistan and having a healthy relation with his former Indian counterparts, fans can expect the revival of bilateral cricket between the two nations.
