Indian sports minister Sarbananda Sonowal has raised his voice in favor of the Indo-Pak series in Sri Lanka. He backed the decision taken by the BCCI on the resumption of ties with their arch rivals Pakistan. Sonowal added that the series will be beneficial for people on both sides of the border and will improve the relationship between the countries.
“Whatever initiative the BCCI is taking, it needs to be supported by us. The BCCI has always been taking the initiatives for the promotion of games and also for the promotion of relationship,”
The decision on this series will be taken by the Indian Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj is expected to give out the final verdict on this series. According to sources she is also likely to visit Pakistan on this matter and other related issues between the countries.
Both the rival boards and the Prime Minister of Pakistan have given their approval for the series in Sri Lanka in December this year. The series will include three ODIs and two T20s matches but no test matches. The Sri Lankan board have already given their positive consent about the series in their backyard.
