Chief Selector, Inzamam Ul Haq is expecting an exciting National T20 Cup as regions selected the team through drafts, which has made all teams competitive.
“Coaches, captains and selectors of the regions have tried their utmost to choose best team combinations [for the National T20 Cup] and so I look forward to healthy and enthralling contests,” Inzamam told reporters after the draft ceremony.
“A number of senior players have also been included for the event which will surely make the squads balanced,” he added.
The tournament will feature Karachi Whites, Lahore Whites, Lahore Blues, Islamabad, FATA, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Faisalabad. However, the best team of the last T20 season, Karachi Blues and Sialkot that has been the most consistent performer in this format of the game have been ignored.
Karachi Whites will be led by Sarfraz Ahmed and he will have the services of players like Asad Shafiq, Haris Sohail, Zulfiqar Babar, Khurram Manzoor, Anwar Ali and Rumman Raees.
Faisalabad will be captained by the 43-year old Misbah Ul Haq. The notable players featuring the team are Sohaib Maqsood, Mohammad Sami and Saeed Ajmal.
The former T20 captain of the team, Mohammad Hafeez will head Lahore Blues. It looks like a strong team in the likes Mohammad Amir, Babar Azam, Junaid Khan, Ahmed Shehzad and Adnan Akmal.
Salman Butt is chosen as the captain of Lahore Whites, he has previously captained WAPDA as well after his return from the ban. Azhar Ali, Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal, Wahab Riaz, Sami Aslam and Ehsan Adil will play under Butt.
The agile wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan will lead Peshawar team. Imran Khan Senior, Sohail Khan and the ICC Champions Trophy final, Fakhar Zaman will feature in the team.
The top ranked T20 bowler of the world, Imad Wasim will martial the Islamabad troop with the young pace sensation Hasan Ali, Rahat Ali, Umar Gul and experienced allrounder Shoaib Malik in the ranks.
Umar Amin is the captain of Rawalpindi, he will have Sohail Tanvir, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz on his side. Whereas, Usman Khan Shinwari will lead FATA with just notable player Bilawal Bhatti in his team.
The tournament will be played in two phases. The first leg is scheduled to be played in Multan from August 25 to 31. The later phase of the tournament will be played in Faisalabad, after Eid-Ul-Azha break, from September 4 to 10.
