Ireland’s tour of Zimbabwe: First ODI

The Irish team is touring Zimbabwe for a three match one day series.

In the first T20 Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to field first.Ireland got off to a decent start of 36 runs but then lost three wickets in quick succession as they were reduced to 54/3. There was need of some stability and that was provided by the fourth wicket partnership between ED Joyce and Wilson when they added 83 runs. Joyce was dismissed for 53 runs and the innings fell away as the Irish team ended at 219/8 at the end of their 50 overs. Wilson remained not out and scored 70 runs.

All the bowlers from the home side took a wicket but Wellington Masakadza, who is making his debut, took 2 wickets for 35 runs. Nyumbu also took 2 wickets and was miserly as he conceded just 35 runs in his 10 overs.

Zimbabwe will begin their innings in around half an hour’s time and this total should not pose a threat if they bat sensibly as the run rate required is quite low and Zimbabwe are good chasers.
