Irfan under investigation, not suspended: Sethi

Pakistan’s left-arm pacer, Mohammad Irfan has also been questioned for alleged match fixing in the Pakistan Super League, along with some other players.

There were speculations earlier that Irfan has also been suspended from the ongoing PSL similar to his Islamabad United’s teammates, Sharjeel Khan and Khalif Latif.

However, Najam sethi has clarified through a series of tweets that the giant from Gaggu Mandi is under investigation for now and has not been suspended yet.

He also revealed a couple of more players who are being questioned by ACSU, however they will continue to play in the league.

Earlier, Najam Sethi said in a statement that Pakistan Cricket Board wants to protect the league from crooks and these investigations are solid proofs for that. However, he did not comment on this situation.

“It would not be appropriate to comment on the specifics of this case,” said Sethi. “However, this investigation is a clear demonstration of our determination to drive corruption out of our sport.”

The PSL chairman has made it clear that they have zero tolerance policy against corruption and they have got the full support of all five franchises.

“All the franchises showed their support for our actions. This is the first time the PCB is taking such a strong stance against corruption. We have to protect this league. We have to make sure these crooks do not taint the PSL,” he said.

Moreover, Sethi revealed that they have some very credible information that some corrupt people will strive to taint this successful league.

“We had some credible information that things were not right. Last year this was a toddler’s league and not many bookies were interested in it. But this time around the PSL is bigger so these bookies are interested. They are covering their tracks and making a run for it as we speak.”

“The PSL belongs to the people of Pakistan. We have to protect it from corrupt practices that ruin the game. We knew beforehand that some of these corrupt people would try to approach us. And we informed each and every player about these things. If even after that some players thought they could get involved then we want to send a message,” he added.
