DUBAI: It was a high scoring game in Dubai on Thursday, where Peshawar Zalmi scored 190 runs batting first in the contest after being invited to bat first by Misbah Ul Haq. However, the game was reduced to 18 overs and target was revised to 173 runs, which was chased by the reigning champions at a cost of three wickets and two balls to spare.

Australian duo of Brad Haddin and Shane Watson and West Indies’ Dwayne Smith steered Islamabad United to an incredible win.

Brad Haddin set the tone for the big chase with an early assault despite of losing his opener Sharjeel Khan early in the game, on whom Islamabad United was depending heavily. The Australian took the charge and contributed 104 runs with Dwayne Smith at a rapid rate.

Rain interrupted play briefly, which resulted in reduction of two overs and 18 runs in the target.

Brad Hadin fell to Chris Jordan after scoring 73 runs off 39 deliveries with the help of eight 4’s and two 6’s. On the other hand, Smith provided the stability by scoring just at run-a-ball rate.

Peshawar Zalmi was ahead in the game Shane Watson arrived at the crease and went all guns blazing. His quick fire 26 runs off 13 deliveries turned the game in reigning champions’ favour.

Dwayne Smith lost his wicket after scoring 55 runs on 49 balls when he tried to hit a big stroke off Junaid Khan and was caught in the deep.

Watson and Billings remained not out in the match after scoring 26 and 7 runs respectively.

Junaid Khan, Hasan Ali and Chris Jordan struck once in the inning.

Earlier in the match, Peshawar Zalmi had a disastrous start, where Mohammad Irfan got rid of Mohammad Hafeez on the very first delivery of the contest.

However, Kamran Akmal and Dawid Malan had a fantastic partnership of 122 runs, which is the highest partnership for any wicket in Pakistan Super League.

Dawid Malan struck 43 runs off 30 balls, his inning comprised of four 4’s and three 6’s. On the other hand, Kamran Akmal continued his top form from the domestic circuit to the league and scored 88 runs on 48 balls with the help of six 4’s and six 6’s.

Despite of the solid platform provided by the two, Zalmis failed to capitalize on that and lost wickets on regular intervals. Apart from Akmal and Malan, Chris Jordan was the third highest scorer of the team with just 16 runs.

Shane Watson shined with the ball as well, he took four wickets for 44 runs in four overs. Mohammad Sami was very economical with an economy rate of just 4.0 in his four overs and also took two wickets. Mohammad Irfan also struck twice in the game and leaked 27 runs in four overs.

Although Shane Watson performed well with both bat and ball, but Brad Haddin was given the Man of the Match award for heroics with the bat which changed the course of the game.
