Karachi: Squash legend Jahangir Khan will bring the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 trophy at the National Stadium in Karachi on February 19.
As the PSL is taking place completely in Pakistan, the 56-year-old Jahangir in an international-themed ceremony will carry the beautiful trophy to the field of play and hand it over to the defending captain Sarfaraz Ahmed of Quetta Gladiators.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani will then unveiled the silverware in the presence of six franchise owners and captains.
Former legend shared his joy on becoming the part of this auspicious occasion.”It will be truly a remarkable moment for me to play a role in the unveiling of the PSL 2020 trophy, I am looking forward to the ceremony, he said.
“PSL has been a great success and credit goes to the PCB. I hope that because of PSL, top international teams will feel safe to travel to Pakistan and this will spark a sporting culture which we have been missing over the last few decades,” he added.
PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan termed it appropriate that a legend like Jahangir Khan will bring the trophy.
“It is befitting that a sporting great like Jahangir Khan will bring the trophy to the ceremony to mark the momentous occasion, which will see an entire PSL season being held in Pakistan,” Wasim said.
“I am thankful to him for becoming a part of the ceremony and providing the PCB the opportunity to honor a legend like him,” Wasim added.
The trophy is designed by a UK based manufactured Ottewill Silversmiths. It includes a three-dimensional star and a crescent on top. The trophy weighs eight kilograms and is 65-centimeter long.
The fifth edition of one of the successful T20 leagues will start from February 20 with an opening ceremony followed by opener between Islamabad United and defending champions Quetta Gladiators. The final of the extravaganza is scheduled for March 22 at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore.
