Japan’s prime minister Shinzo Abe fell head-over-heels into a sand bunker while playing a round of golf with US President Donald Trump.
Prime Minister Abe, who hosted Trump and Hideki Matsuyama at the Kasumigaseki Country Club on Sunday, hits a shot from the fairway bunker. Trump and Matsuyama walk toward the green, unaware of the drama unfolding behind them.
Abe makes a charge up the side of the bunker and even gets one foot onto solid land before losing his balance, tumbling backward in a half-somersault and landing back in the bunker floor.
The 63-year-old prime minister scrambled to his feet quickly, before either playing partner had noticed what happened.
However, Japanese press fiercely criticised the game as a “major failure” and tabloid Nikkan Gendai wrote that Abe was often abandoned by Trump who preferred to walk and chat with their professional guest.
