England’s opener Jason Roy has found it difficult to counter the 7 foot plus fast bowler Mohammad Irfan and recently in a interview he expressed his views about the tall fast bowler (quotes via Khaleej Times)
“He’s an absolute giant. Yes it is different. He (Irfan) completely did me in the first game. It’s something to get used to and something to work on, but he’s very difficult to get hold of,”
He added that his county team mate was Chris Tremlett who is a tall fast bwoler himself so facing him has given him some experience of tackling such a tall fast bowler.
“He probably seems a bit quicker than he is because he’s (almost) 12 foot tall. But, my teammate at Surrey was Chris Tremlett so I’ve had a bit of experience at facing big bowlers. He was a handful and so is Irfan.”
Roy also praised Yasir Shah and termed him as a classy fast bowler.
“It’s (just) been two games, and he’s obviously a class bowler, so you’ve always got to be on edge with players like him.”
He also said that Alex Hales century was crucial to their success in the second ODI and added that he is an outstanding player and no longer just a T20 player.
“He’s an outstanding player. He’s come a long way, since starting in the Twenty20 format. He’s got his maiden hundred – and that was key,”
