KARACHI: Sardar Mohammad Baksh Mehar, sports minister of Sindh, has honoured the services of Commonwealth Karate Championship gold medallist Saadi Abbas and South Asian Karate Championship (doubles) gold medallist Kulsoom Hazara in Karachi on Tuesday.

Praising their performances on global platforms, Mehar awarded a prize money of Rs75,000 for Abbas and Rs100,000 for Kulsoom.

Abbas is Pakistan’s most decorated karateka. In 2014, he added another gold medal to his collection at the US Open Karate Championship in Las Vegas.

Previously, Abbas had earned gold medals at the 10th Asian Championships held in China in 2011. The China stint had made him the first South Asian gold medallist at the continental championship, along with medals in 2010’s Commonwealth Championships in Johannesburg, South Africa and 2013’s in Montreal, Canada.

He also clinched bronze at the 11th Asian Championships in Tashkent and during the event’s 2013 edition in Dubai.
