DUBAI: Kieron Pollard fired at the right time for Karachi Kings and pulled off an incredible win for them by hitting two consecutive sixes on the last two balls of the match. Karachi Kings chased down the target of 156 runs at a cost of 5 wickets and made a strong case for themselves to qualify to the next round.
Karachi Kings needed 14 runs off the last over and Aamer Yasin was given the responsibility to defend them. He bowled four good balls and took the game to a stage where KK needed 10 off two balls, Pollard stood up to the challenge and struck two big blows to take his team over the line. He remained not out on 45 runs on 20 balls.
Karachi Kings were struggling at score of 103 for 5 in 15.2 overs and it seemed like Lahore Qalandars will advance to the next round by winning the contest.
Lahore Qalandars were great in the field today as they got three of Kings’ players Mahela Jayawerdene, Ravi Bopara and Shoaib Malik, runout in the match.
Babar Azam was the only batsman, apart from the match winner Pollard, to bat impressively in the match. He scored 49 runs on 42 deliveries.
New addition Mahela Jayawerdene, Shoaib Malik and Ravi Bopara failed to create any impact in the game. The skipper, Kumar Sangakkara scored 20 runs in 23 balls.
Narine was Lahore’s best bowler with figures of 19/1 in four overs.
Earlier in the match, Karachi Kings won the toss and invited Lahore Qalandars to bat first.
They were struggling at a score of 100/6 in 14.3 overs. But, resilient batting from Mohammad Rizwan and Sohail Tanvir took their team to a competitive total of 155 runs. They contributed 55 runs together and remained not out on 32 and 22 runs respectively.
Rizwan was the highest scorer for Lahore Qalandars, whereas, Shoaib Malik remained the pick of the bowler for Kings with two wickets for 21 runs in four overs.
