Karachi Kings loses to Lahore Qalandars by 8 wickets


Lahore: Explosive left-handed batsman Ben Dunk and Captain Lahore Qalandars Sohail Akhtar guided their side to an eight-wicket win against Karachi Kings.

In the 23rd fixture played at Gaddafi Stadium, Qalandars opted to bowl first after winning the toss. Kings lost Sharjeel Khan early in the piece.

Babar Azam and Alex Hales rescued Kings from there. Babar departed after scoring 38 off 29 balls. Kings lost two wickets in quick succession, Alex continued to save the other end. He was joined by wicket-keeper Chadwick Walton from there as both added 93 for the fifth-wicket stand.

Alex brought his fifty in just 34 balls and continued to build from there. Walton, on the other hand, smacked Qalandars bowlers. He hit two fours and five massive sixes in his 20-balls cameo of 45.

Alex finished not-out on a brilliant score of 80 in just 48 balls, smashing six fours and five sixes. Maaz was the pick of the bowlers for the home side, claiming two for 31 runs.

Qalandars started the chase slowly, losing Fakhar Zaman in the first over of the innings. Mohammad Amir castled his stumps. Skipper Sohail was joined by Mohammad Hafeez but he didn’t trouble Kings’ bowlers. He departed courtesy brilliant bowling by Umer Khan.

Later, it was all about Ben Dunk, who hit 12 sixes, most by any batsman in a PSL inning. Sohail, played an anchor role, making 46-balls 68* which included six fours and two sixes.

Dunk was one run short of his hundred as he smacked six on the first bowl to Cameron Delport when four runs were needed of the final over. He was awarded player of the match for his brilliant 40-ball 99*.

Karachi Kings will now face Qalandars at National Stadium in Karachi on 12th March, Thursday.
