Klass, Wolvaardt guide South Africa women to a win over Pakistan


Laura Wolvaardt smashed 74 runs off 104 balls to which guided South Africa Women to beat Pakistan Women by eight wickets in the second ODI of five-match series on Thursday.

Earlier, Masabat Klass’s 39th over hat-trick stole the show as Pakistan bundled for 147 in allotted 50 overs.

While batting first, Pakistan were off to a decent start with Nahida Khan and Sidra Amin posting 50 runs for the first wicket. Tumi Sekhukhune bagged Nahida in 12th over to give the home side their first breakthrough. Nahida made 37 runs off 34 balls including six boundaries.

Sekhukhune, who finished with the figures of 2-20, removed the second opener Sidra to once again build pressure on the green shirts. She contributed 25 runs with the help of just two boundaries.

Bismah Maroof was the only batter to race the inning for Pakistan by scoring 32 runs otherwise the remaining batting line fell after regular intervals.

Klass grabbed the limelight with 3-27 while skipper Sune Luus shared two wickets apiece with Sekhukhune.

In reply, a 76-run partnership had already given South Africa an edge in the match. Lizelle Lee (40) Wolvaardt (74) made the chase easy for the hosts.

Sune Luus finished the game for his side by scoring a brief inning of 21 runs which includes four hits to the fence.

Sana Mir and Omaima Sohail bagged a wicket each for Pakistan.
