Sensible knocks by skipper Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan along with KL Rahul 80 off 52 balls helped India to put a challenging total of 340-6 in the must-win game against Australia in the second ODI of three-match series in Rajkot.
Aaron Finch once again won the toss and decided to field first. This time Indian openers, Rohit Sharma and Shikar Dhawan got India off to a flying start as they added 81 runs. Adam Zampa broke the partnership after trapping Rohit in front.
Virat Kohli was back to bat at number 3 spot and along with Dhawan added a healthy 103-run stand. Dhawan (96) fell four runs short of his 18th ODI century. Shreyas Iyer (7) was quickly removed by Zampa after that.
KL Rahul who came to bat at number 5 played till the 48th over. Virat Kohli got out after a great catch at the boundary line by Mitchell Starc. He scored 78 off 76 balls.
Leg-spinner Zampa was the pick of the wickets for the kangaroos claiming three for 50 in his ten overs. Right-arm pacer Kane Richardson picked two for 73.
It must be noted Australia thrashed the hosts India in the first ODI in Mumbai by ten wickets.
