Indian batting master Virat Kohli furthered his likeness for Pakistan’s paceman Mohammad Amir, giving him a bat during teams’ net session at Eden Gardens on Friday.
The kind gesture will ease out an otherwise enormous pressure on the players as the arch-rivals meet in a high voltage World Twenty20 clash at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Kohli waked across to Pakistan nets and shook hands with Pakistan captain. The two talked for several minutes and when the two parted, Kohli called Amir from the Pakistan nets.
It was a moment for cameramen as Kohli gave a cricket bat to Amir who accepted it gleefully, checked it by taking a stance and then thanked the Indian batsman.
That showed Kohli’s liking for Amir and furthered the camaraderie the two share. Kohli was full of praise for Amir after his three-wicket burst to jolt India who were chasing a mere 84-run target in the Asia Cup in Dhaka last month.
Kohli, declared man of the match in that game, said afterwards that he congratulated Amir while batting in that match.
Amir said he is delighted at Kohli’s gesture.
“I am thankful to Kohli for the bat and it has increased his respect,’ said Amir.
