In the ongoing Pakistan Cup in Faisalabad the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa side defeated the Punjab side by 2 runs in a thrilling contest that went down the wire.
After having won the toss the KPK side decided to bat first. Fakhar Zaman and Ahmed Shehzad provided a brilliant opening stand of 88 runs and both scored half centuries. Shehzad scored 57 runs while Fakhar Zaman was the top scorer of their innings with 64 runs.
Zohaib Khan made an important contribution of 51 runs down the order to get his side to a good total meanwhile Ramiz Aziz scored 35 runs and Bismillah Khan accumulated 33 runs. The KPK side scored 262 runs for the lost of 6 wickets at the end of 50 overs. For Punjab Zulfiqar Babar and Amir Yamin took two wickets each.
The Punjab side went about their chase in a focused fashion and at one stage looked to set to achieve the target but they failed to keep up with the run rate and made the chase a whole lot tougher for themselves. Salman Butt, who is looking to make his way back into the side, made 77 runs while Asad Shafiq and Mohammad Rizwan scored 47 runs each. Captain Shoaib Malik scored 41 runs but he was not able to lead his team to victory.
Punjab needed 9 runs from the final over but good death bowling from Rahat Ali handed Punjab their second straight defeat of the tournament. KPK won the match by 2 runs.
Rahat Ali took 4 wicket and was consequently declared man of the match.
