Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi lock horns in must-win contest

Lahore: In-form Lahore Qalandars are all set to take on Peshawar Zalmi in a must-win contest for both teams today at Gaddafi Stadium.

With two back-to-back wins, Qalandars look highly pumped up whereas Zalmi, the one-time PSL champion, aims victory to make their position strong to qualify for the playoffs. Both teams are highly expected to provide yet another enthralling contest in front of Lahore’s exciting crowd.

Batting comparison

Both sides have a potent batting line which keeps destructive abilities to solely make a day for their team.

Peshawar Zalmi has Tom Banton and Kamran Akmal, the duo which can be lethal for the men in yellow as they can make the most of the powerplay. Score around 50 in the powerplay probably can boost the confidence of Zalmi to beat Qalandars.

Whereas the unpredictable Qalandars have their unpredictable opener Fakhar Zaman, who hasn’t been able to impress people with his bat but he keeps full strength to make the most of a single opportunity comes his way. Along with him, skipper Sohail Akhtar will carry his match-winning inning of 68 runs off 46 balls from the last match and is equally expected to provide Qalandars yet another strong start.

Qalandars contain experienced Mohammad Hafeez in middle-order whereas to counter him Zalmi has Shoiab Malik in the line-up to take responsibility with the bat. Centre of attraction Ben Dunk is also there to support the home team along with Samit Patel who has been in-form since first match of this year’s edition. David Wiese also keeps a high ability to score runs at a good strike rate and hit some big shots in the end.

Zalmi has Liam Livingstone and Liam Dawson as their main batsmen in the middle-order while young Haider Ali is a strong option for them to accelerate the inning. Carlos Brathwaite can play the role of hard-hitter in the end whenever they need.

Bowling comparison

Both teams have balanced bowling line-up. Zalmi’s charge will be led by their skipper Wahab Riaz who is currently the fourth-highest wicket-taker of the tournament so far. On the other hand, Shaheen Shah Afridi (fifth-highest wicket-taker) will lead the bowling attack of Qalandars.

Zalmi has experienced Rahat Ali, Hasan Ali, Yasir Shah and Carlos Brathwaite in the pipeline who can take their team on top. Qalandars have Usman Shinwari, David Wiese, Seekuge Prasanna, Samit Patel, and Dilbar Hussain.
