Lahore: Samit Patel was on song with his four wickets spell to set the tone for Lahore Qalandars to beat Quetta Gladiators by eight wickets in the 21st match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 5 at Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday.
Mohammad Hafeez (39*) and Ben Dunk (30*) finished the job for Qalandars as they won their second match in the tournament.
Earlier, Patel finished his four overs spell with the figures of 4-5 and set up things for his team to dominate over the defending champions. Left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi started the party when he removed Shane Watson for naught on the second delivery of the inning.
In his next over, Afridi once again dominated and this time sent Ahmed Shahzad back home. Shahzad made nine off eight. Later, Patel took three back to back wickets of Jason Roy, Sarfraz Ahmed, and Azam Khan.
Sent into bat first, Gladiators were not able to start off things well. They lost openers earlier and only their three batters entered into double figures. Sohail Khan was the highest scorer for them. The right-handed batsman scored 32 off 35 balls with the help of two boundaries and as many sixes.
Zahid Mahmood scored run-a-ball 19 runs laced with two boundaries.
Apart from Patel and Afridi, Farzan Raja took two wickets while Salman Irshad bagged a wicket.
In reply, Qalandars lost their skipper Sohail Akhtar earlier after he was promoted up the order. He scored just five runs. Fakhar Zaman also departed after scoring 20 runs off 13 balls.
But later on, Hafeez and Dunk supported the winning side and scored 67 runs together on the scoreboard.
Mohammad Nawaz was the only wicket-taker for Gladiators. The left-arm spinner took two wickets for nine runs in three overs.
