Rawalpindi: Lewis Gregory bagged four wickets to set the tone for Peshawar Zalmi to beat Lahore Qalandars by 16 runs in a rain-hit 12 overs per side contest at Pindi Stadium on Friday.
Earlier, Tom Banton and Haider Ali smashed 34 runs each to help Zalmi post 132-7 in 12 overs. Both the youngsters played exceptionally well and made the most of the powerplay after the rain-hit contest was reduced to 12 overs. Haider struck four sixes and a boundary while Banton smashed four boundaries and two sixes.
Lewis Gregory scored 16 off 8 balls laced with two sixes and Darren Sammy hit a six and scored 12 runs.
Dilbar Hussain picked up four wickets to remain on top of the bowling chart. He conceded 24 runs in three overs.
In reply, Qalandars once again struggled to get off the mark. They didn’t capitalize on a good opening start provided by openers Fakhar Zaman (22) and Chris Lynn (30). They both smashed 48 runs in 4.1 overs before Lynn was caught off Gregory.
Samit Patel tried hard to take his team over the victory line for the first time in the event but batters, on the other hand, kept on losing wickets. He made 34 off 15 balls including five boundaries and a six.
Apart from Gregory, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir Khan bagged a wicket each.
