Karachi: Former Test cricketer Moin Khan urged current wicket-keepers to be the backbone of the team behind the stumps and help bowlers rebuild the momentum during pressure situations.
Speaking to national wicket-keepers via teleconference, Khan guided them on how to back-up bowlers when they are conceding access runs. “A wicket-keeper plays an important role in lifting the morale of a bowler when he is conceding runs. You need to be energetic behind the stumps which will definitely boost the confidence of others,” he told.
Khan recalled his chemistry with Wasim Akram and Shahid Afridi during his playing days. “I used to understand what Wasim and Afridi were up to by their eye contact. This is what a wicket-keeper needs to do behind the stumps. I have sent so many batsmen back to the pavilion with a strong understanding with the bowler,” he explained.
The former wicket-keeper also revealed his idols whom he used to follow during his playing days. “Ian Healy and Saleem Yousuf were the two keepers I followed the most during my playing days,” he said.
It must be noted here that the PCB has given chance to current cricketers to interact with their on-field heroes. Recently, Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Mushtaq Ahmed, Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Yousuf, Younis Khan, and Rashid Latif interacted with the current players.
