Lahore: Muhammad Musa’s surprising six in the last over helped Islamabad United beat Lahore Qalandars by one wicket.
Needed nine runs off the last over, Musa smashed Usman Shinwari for a six on the very first ball. Three easy singles later handed a thrilling victory to the United, their second in the tournament.
Set to chase 183, United lost their openers for the sum of just five runs. Ronchi made a run while Munro went back after scoring just two. David Malan (22) and Shadab Khan (52) scored 57 runs together for the third wicket to raise some hopes for their team.
The wicket of Shadab and later Colin Ingram (30) put Qalandars back on track and they seemed to dominate the entire contest. Later on, in the end, it was Musa who came out of the box to score 17 runs off just 11 balls including six and two boundaries.
For Qalandars, Shaheen Shah Afridi bagged four wickets while Haris Rauf managed two. Mohammad Hafeez, David Wiese, and Samit Patel shared a wicket apiece.
Earlier, Hafeez’s brilliant 57-ball 98 guided Qalandars to 182-6 in 20 overs. Hafeez, played an anchor role for Qalandars as he smashed seven fours and as many sixes. He along with Fakhar Zaman added 67 for the second-wicket. Fakhar scored 26-ball 33 which included five fours.
Later, at the end of the inning, David Wiese played a cameo of 19 in just nine balls. He hammered two fours and a massive six.
United skipper Shadab Khan was the pick of the bowlers as he picked two wickets for just 14 runs in his quota of four overs. Faheem Ashraf also claimed two for 42. Muhammad Musa and Ahmed Saifi Abdullah took a wicket each.
