Peshawar Zalmi beat Islamabad United by 7 runs according to D/L method


Rawalpindi: Peshawar Zalmi beat Islamabad United by 7 runs according to the Duckworth-lewis method at Pindi Cricket Stadium.

Zalmi while chasing 196 scored 85/2 in nine overs and were seven runs ahead of the required score according to D/L method.

Earlier, United gave a target of 196 after putting into bat first by Zalmi. Captain Shadab Khan 42-ball 77 guided United to a competitive score. The 21-year-old smashed five fours and four massive sixes and now is the highest six-hitter of the ongoing season.

He along with Colin Munro added 67 for the third-wicket stand. Munro scored back to back fifty and departed after scoring 52. Colin Ingram also added his part and scored 25-ball 41, which included two sixes and a four.

Zalmi started the proceeding by removing Luke Ronchi in the first over, later in the fifth over Hasan Ali got the wicket of Rizwan Hussain. Hasan was the pick of the bowlers claiming two for 36 in four overs. Rahat, Wahab Riaz, and Carlos Braithwaite picked a wicket each.

Zalmi started their chase confidently in the powerplay courtesy Kamran Akmal, who made 36. Imam-ul-Haq again failed and only score 7 in 9 balls. In the seventh over, Zafar Gohar removed Kamran.

Tom Banton (20) carried the chase along with Haider Ali who made 16 until the rain interrupted the play. Shadab was awarded player of the match for his third fifty.

Zalmi and Multan Sultans have the same number of points (9) but Sultans have the better run-rate that put them on the top of the table.
